Co Dodescaden Laurence Maillot & Jérémy Démesmaeker - TREMBLING
Residency 16 > 20 March 2026
Trembling comes from the concept of trembling proposed by the poet and philosopher Édouard Glissant. In the tradition of Aimé Césaire, who conceived of creolization as a necessary (hybrid) relationship to the world, Glissant viewed trembling as a poetic, political, and corporeal experience that connects the body to the earth, to memory, to vibration. It is this movement that connects beings, dismantles certainties, and opens a space for listening to the world. The relationship to the other and to the world is never fixed but rather characterized by a constant oscillation, a perpetual readjustment, a perpetual trembling.
With Trembling, the Dodescaden company explores trembling as a space of encounter, memory, and resistance. Laurence Maillot, a Creole choreographer and dancer born in La Réunion, intertwines her history with that of Jérémy Démesmaeker, a dancer and musician born in Belgium. From this encounter emerges a decolonial gesture — a dance of listening and displacement.
